Protecting your business brand against competitors

Protecting your business brand against competition is a hot-button issue for so many of my solopreneurs.  And a burning question after I've finished helping a business owner with their business rebrand. That’s why I wrote my most recent article published in Northampton Living Magazine on this very topic. In this article, I talked about a client of mine who was threatened with legal action from another business in the same industry and who happened to share the SAME name as them (yikes!). Read more to see what advice I offered in this scarily common scenario!

The article urges solopreneurs to conduct their own brand check, which you can easily do YOURSELF using the Internet. It's all about knowing what information to look out for! Any information that is made public online also means that YOU can access it - secret detective work at its best, right!? And before you start thinking about how having a good brand means avoiding legal entanglements...it's only kinda true. Having a strong brand means you start to attract the right people to your business and grow in a way that truly aligns with your goals - without worrying if you're being copied or copying someone else.

Here is a short summary of some of the key points I shared in the article:

  1. Legal Protection: Failing to conduct a thorough brand examination can expose your business to legal challenges and costly lawsuits.

  2. Brand Preservation: A brand analysis can help you see what your competitors are up to, how they present themselves, and spot possible infringements and conflicts that step on your toes. This will empower you to step up and safeguard your brand's integrity from the get-go.

  3. Outside Perspective: Collaborating with a brand expert like Boss Diplomat can offer you insights into your market landscape, revealing opportunities to strategically position your brand that your competitor may be ignoring. These little black gaps in the market could become your potential goldmine!

  4. Distinctive Identity: Professional guidance can help you create a truly unique brand identity, setting you apart from competitors and enhancing your market presence.

  5. Strategic Foundation: Working with a brand expert ensures you have a solid brand foundation from the outset, translating to long-term resource and cost savings.
